The price of bitcoin (BTC) crossed $29,000 Wednesday evening for the first time ever, pushing further into record territory after hitting what had been an all-time high earlier in the day.

In an interesting consequence of Ripple Labs’ battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a Missouri man claiming to be a Coinbase client is suing the crypto exchange for selling the XRP token.

As 2020 draws to a close, one of the prior proponents for an exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on bitcoin is trying again: VanEck has submitted an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a “VanEck Bitcoin Trust.”

Binance Pool, the mining pool run by one of crypto’s biggest exchanges, is prepared to support Taproot, a good omen for the next major Bitcoin upgrade. The addition of Binance Pool to the “yes” column means that all the major pools are now on board.

In 2020, decentralized finance was Ethereum’s trend of the year — and with that honor came a thousand new terms and even more memes. But more importantly, the success of DeFi proved an essential quality of Ethereum this year: that real high-volume apps are possible on the still-nascent network.
